The 4th Panzer Regiment of the National People's Army of the GDR existed from 1956 to 1989 at the Gotha site in today's Friedenstein barracks .
history
On June 15, 1956, the 4th Panzer Regiment was set up. The armament came from the stock of the Panzer and SFL regiments of the barracked People's Police . The regiment was called " August Bebel ". It was part of the 4th Motorized Rifle Division (4th MSD) of the National People's Army (NVA). At the 78th session of the National Defense Council on June 16, 1989, a decision was made to reduce the NVA by 10,000 soldiers, including the dissolution of Panzer Regiment 4. On October 24, 1989, the PR-4 was finally dissolved.
