Karl-Heinz Hollstein

Karl-Heinz Hollstein (born September 10, 1919 in Stettin ; † May 22, 2014 in Schwerin ) was a German major general . He was the commander of a motorized rifle division and chief of the Schwerin military district command of the National People's Army (NVA).

Life

The son of a worker completed an apprenticeship as an electric fitter after attending primary school from 1937 to 1940. In 1940 he became the Wehrmacht confiscated and fell in 1945 as a commissioned officer of the Armored Corps in Soviet captivity from which he was released 1948th

He joined the German People's Police (DVP) on October 4, 1948 , and was initially a group leader in the Kühlungsborn VP readiness . In 1949 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and head of command of the VP office in Pinnow . From 1950 to 1952 he was an officer in the Eggesin VP readiness . From 1952 to 1953 he attended a special course in the Soviet Union. He then became the commander of the self-propelled gun command of the barracked people's police in Gotha .

On March 1, 1956, he joined the NVA as a major and became commander of the newly formed 4th Panzer Regiment in Gotha. From 1958 to 1960 he studied at the General Staff Academy of the Soviet Armed Forces in Moscow . From 1960 to 1962 he was deputy commander and since October 1, 1962 commander of the 4th motorized rifle division in Erfurt . From October 1, 1966 to 1979, he was chief of the Schwerin military district command of the NVA and at the same time a member of the SED district leadership in Schwerin. He was appointed major general on October 7, 1974 and transferred to reserve on June 30, 1979.

He stayed in Schwerin and was the deputy chairman of the district board of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship . Hollstein died at the age of 94 and was buried in the Schwerin forest cemetery.
