General Staff School

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A general staff school , also general staff academy , academy of the general staff or leadership academy (in Germany war academy until 1945 ) serves the purpose of training qualified staff officers in the political , management and administrative aspects up to possible top-level posts as general staff officers. These highest military educational institutions usually have a university character .

Although there were war schools of this type among the great powers of the long 19th century , they prevailed especially after the Second World War . Their creation was based on the knowledge that the increasing division of labor in the economy made the establishment of business and administrative colleges necessary.

The structure of general staff schools in the United States' armed forces is particularly fragmented : their individual branches sometimes have several military academies of this type.
