The General Staff School GST S is the military training facility for prospective general staff officers in the Swiss Army . It is based in Lucerne .
organization
The GST S is divided into a staff and two course commands. The staff essentially organizes, plans and supports the two commands. The training command (Kdo LG) is primarily responsible for basic and advanced training. The main task of the Command Simulator (Kdo Fhr Sim) is to carry out simulator-based training and exercises.

The GST S offers various courses for general staff officers. Essentially, it has the following missions:
- Basic and advanced training for general staff officers
- Further training of the staff officers of the large associations
- Simulator-supported staff exercises for the benefit of the large associations as well as various courses within the HKA
Courses
The following general staff courses (GLG) can be attended, which are necessary to work in the respective functions.
GLG I
Duration: 4 weeks
Trained functions: Chief Operations, General Staff Officer Operations, Chief News Procurement

conditions
In order to be admitted to the General Staff School, strict requirements must be met. Without having achieved this, there is no opportunity for a doctorate. The criteria are as follows:
- Passed three training services of the troops (FDT) as a unit commander with the grade very good in the last FDT
- Passing an inspection by the commander of the large formation with a corresponding proposal for general staff training
- Passing the leadership course II with the minimum grade good
- Passing the psychological aptitude test (PEP) at the Aviation Medical Institute
- Passing the assessment / military proficiency test (MEP) for prospective general staff officers
- Proposal to be drafted into the General Staff Course I (GLG I) by the Chief of the Army
- Passing the General Staff courses I and II with the minimum grade is sufficient
