The BUSA ​​professional sergeant school is the military training center for aspiring professional sergeants in the Swiss armed forces . It is based in Herisau in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

BUSA ​​is the competence center for basic and advanced training for professional NCOs in the Swiss Army.

Its tasks are:

  • Trains the professional non-commissioned officers for their early employment;
  • Further trains the professional NCOs for Einsatzgruppen OR (1) 8 and 9;
  • Further trains the professional NCOs to become trainers with a federal certificate;
  • Further educates NCO (2) in the field of leadership as part of the PfP program;
  • Ensures athletic competence in the higher cadre training of the army (HKA);
  • Ensures competence in the national languages ​​German, French, Italian and English.

Courses

Basic training course (GAL)

At the GAL, the prospective professional NCOs are taught the necessary general and basic military knowledge and skills for two years. It enables them to work as military instructors , guides and educators . After successfully completing the course, the participants receive the federal diploma as professional non-commissioned officer and are promoted to the military degree of adjutant non-commissioned officer.

Further training course (WAK)

Every BU must periodically attend further training courses. There, the knowledge and skills learned are expanded and brought up to date. In addition, general education is deepened. A large number of military and civilian personnel attend these courses each year. The courses are offered in the areas of leadership , didactics and methodology as well as languages and sport .

Further training course (WAL)

Experienced BU are prepared for new functions in the advanced training course. After successfully completing WAL 1, the participants can be employed as class teachers in management schools, as head of the department or in equivalent functions. In order to work as a management assistant of a school commandant or as a class teacher at the BUSA, the completion of WAL 2 is mandatory. In order to be employed as a commanding assistant of a general (brigadier, divisional officer, corps commander), the completion of WAL 3 is mandatory.

Completion of a WAL is usually a prerequisite for promotion to staff (OR 9) , chief or chief adjutant (OR 9).

International NCO courses

In order to better prepare for foreign assignments, the BUSA runs so-called International NCO Courses . The focus there is on achieving interoperability . The courses that are offered lead to the achievement of interoperability level 1 & 2.

conditions

To be admitted to the BUSA, the following criteria must be met:

  • to be a higher non-commissioned officer (Feldweibel, Hauptfeldweibel or Fourier) well-earned in the military career;
  • have a certificate of proficiency for an apprenticeship of at least three years in accordance with the BBG or an at least equivalent qualification from a state-recognized school;
  • Knowledge of a second national language (German or French);
  • have good qualifications from previous military services;
  • have been declared suitable for professional insurance for military insurance;
  • have a category B driver's license;
  • have passed the aptitude test for professional non-commissioned officers.
