Chief Adjutant ( French Adjudant-Chef , Italian Aiutante capo ) is a rank of the Swiss Army (abbr .: Chefadj ) that has existed since January 1, 2004. It is the highest rank of non-commissioned officer and thus corresponds, like the staff and chief adjutant, to the senior staff sergeant of the German armed forces or the vice lieutenant of the Austrian armed forces .

This ranking designates professional non-commissioned officers who serve as command assistants in teaching associations as well as militia - non-commissioned officers who are assigned to the staff of a territorial region.

On assignments abroad, he is referred to as the Chief Warrant Officer (CWO). NATO code : OR-9.

The rank badge consists of two superimposed angles with two bars below. In the middle there is a Swiss cross (Ordonnanzkreuz) set in foliage and above it two more angles one above the other.

In the French and Canadian armed forces there are comparable ranks with the designation Adjudant-Chef .
