The Hauptfeldweibel (abbr. Hptfw ) is a rank in the Swiss Army . It was introduced on January 1, 2004 as a new degree for unit field women. The main sergeant is for the service operation responsible a company. (Technical NCOs still carry the degree Feldweibel ).

On assignments abroad, he is referred to as the Chief Sergeant Major (CSM). NATO rank code : OR-7.

In the Swiss Army, the rank badge shows two angles on top of each other with a transverse bar underneath and a Swiss cross (Ordonnanzkreuz) set in foliage above.

The unit field woman is often referred to as the right hand of the company commander. He supports the commandant in most matters relating to internal service in the barracks and in logistics.

Duties

The specifications of the Hauptfeldweibels are quite extensive and varied. He can also appoint deputies for individual tasks - however, he bears the final responsibility.

Service operation

The primary responsibility of the unit warrior lies in the organization of the service. He is responsible for a punctual day watch for the team and for the punctual start of work (read-out). During the evening reading , he checks whether the troops are fully present in the cantonment on time .

Commands

The Hauptfeldweibel regularly checks the troops' stocks and reports them to the company commander - typically when they are read out. He orders special tasks in the barracks service, including the guards and the cleaning crew.

Accommodation & hygiene

The main field female is responsible for the accommodation. He ensures that the company has suitable accommodation available for the duration of the service. While on duty, he monitors the order in the accommodation. He is also responsible for the hygiene issues of the troops, so he ensures that there is enough time and facilities for personal hygiene. If a soldier needs medical help, he is responsible for organizing a doctor's appointment or the necessary transport - usually in cooperation with the transport officer and, if available - the assigned troop doctor.

Ammunition & Equipment

Another important task is managing the assigned equipment. The Feldweibel distributes the personal equipment to the soldiers - usually with the help of a material soldier. He regularly checks their completeness and readiness for action.

In cooperation with the unit's technical field worker, he also organizes the allocation of operational or function-related material such as special weapons or telecommunications equipment.

He is responsible for the logistics and any replacement and replenishment deliveries that may be required, so he ensures that the required material is available on time and ready for use, including equipment such as ammunition , fuel or food. This is particularly time-consuming in the case of units that are distributed over a very large area due to their mission, such as transmission troops .
