Fourier (military)

German armed forces
The Furier is originally in most German-speaking armed forces the name for the non- commissioned officer in the army who is entrusted with the catering business . The term was extended on the one hand to other ranks and branches of service as well as (see below) civilian employees, as well as factually to all supply matters. Accordingly, furry rooms are not only storage rooms for food, but also for clothing, equipment and weapons with accessories, etc.

In the Swiss Army , the Fourier (short: Four ) is a senior non-commissioned officer who acts as a commanding assistant to a unit commander (company). In this function he is responsible for the company's catering and bookkeeping. The troop bookkeeper is his direct assistant.
The commissariat service is subordinate to the Fourier, which includes the troop budget (food), troop accounting (bookkeeping, pay) and accommodation procurement. He is technically subordinate to the quartermaster - an officer of the battalion staff - who is a controlling body vis-à-vis the Fourier and who revises his work. The chef reports to the Fourier.
Since January 1, 2004, a crossbar has been added to the Fourier's badge. This makes it clear that Fourier and the new degree Hauptfeldweibel are still equivalent degrees in the hierarchy. When deployed abroad, he is referred to as a Quartermaster Sergeant (QMS). The NATO rank code is OR-7.
