Paolo Benvenuti

Paolo Benvenuti (born January 30, 1946 in Pisa ) is an Italian documentary filmmaker and film director .

Life

After finishing high school, Benvenuti belonged to the group “Cinema Zero di Pisa” and began his artistic activities as a writer, painter and graphic artist. He was also involved in the experimental film from 1968 and made numerous short films; also a job as assistant director u. a. by Roberto Rossellini fell at this time. After numerous other documentaries, he made his debut as a feature film director in 1988 with Il bacio di Giuda , which he also produced. The film was not geared towards commerciality and broke with all the usual viewing habits, with elements on which his other, following work supported: Rigorous, cultured, of paintings influenced imagery, accompanied by slow narrative style, influences of theater drama and reminiscences to ancient cultures.

His film Gostanza da Labbiano received two awards at the Locarno Film Festival in 2000.

Benvenuti also worked for the theater.
