Paolo Lanfranchi
Paolo Lanfranchi (born July 25, 1968 in Gazzaniga (Lombardy) ) is a former Italian cyclist .
Lanfranchi was active as a professional from 1993 to 2004. He only achieved greater success in the second half of his career. These include the two overall victories at the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia in 1999 and 2001 and the stage win in Briançon at the Giro d'Italia 2000 . Lanfranchi played a controversial role in the professional road races during the 2001 World Cup in Lisbon , when he was involved in the pursuit of his national team-mate Gilberto Simoni ; probably to preserve the chances of his Mapei teammate Óscar Freire . In fact, Freire ultimately won the race in the sprint.
