Paolo Quagliati
Paolo Quagliati (* around 1555 in Chioggia ; † November 16, 1628 in Rome ) was an Italian composer and organist in Rome.
Live and act
After his musical training (probably in Venice), Paolo Quagliati moved to Rome in 1574, where he worked as an organist in various churches. He then found (after 1600) a job with Cardinal Alessandro Ludovisi, who in 1616 as Pope Gregory XV. went down in history. This put him in the rank of Apostolic Protonotary .
Quagliati created sacred and secular vocal and instrumental music in great variety. Its first publication dates from 1585. An important work is “ La sfera armoniosa ” (Rome 1623), it consists of no less than 25 parts, including vocal solos and duets, all of which are accompanied by accompanying violin parts. Some of the movements correspond to the “style concertato” from northern Italy. He wrote this work for the wedding of Isabella Gesualdo, a niece of the Pope and daughter of the infamous composer Prince Carlo Gesualdo .
