Paphos (mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paphos ( Greek  Πάφος ) is the namesake of the city of Paphos on Cyprus in Greek mythology .

She was (according to Ovid ) the daughter of Pygmalion and his ivory statue animated by Aphrodite . In this version, her name is also used to denote the whole island, not just the city.

In the scholias to Pindar's second Pythian Ode she is referred to as the mother of Kinyras , with either Apollo or a Eurymedon being named as the father .
