Pappogeomys is a genus in the pocket rat familywith two species that are found in Mexico . In some papers the genus Cratogeomys is listed as a subgenus of Pappogeomys .

The genus includes the following species:

These pocket rats have a head-torso length of 13 to 17.5 cm and a tail length of 5 to 8.5 cm. The basic color of the soft fur on the top varies between cinnamon brown with an orange shade and dark brown. The fur on the underside is generally lighter and the tail is bare. In both species there is a distinctive spot on the snout, which is light brown in the Alcorn pocket rat and white in Pappogeomys bulleri . There is a groove in the middle of the upper incisors.

Little is known about the way the species live. They can be found in the lowlands and in mountains up to 2300 meters above sea level. Mixed forests with oaks and conifers as well as grassy areas serve as habitat . These rodents like to visit farmland, where they can cause great damage.

The IUCN lists the Alcorn pocket rat as Critically Endangered and Pappogeomys bulleri as Least Concern .
