from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The papyrus Chester Beatty IV (No. 961 after Rahlfs ) is a fragment of a papyrus manuscript from the 4th century and belongs to the Chester Beatty papyri . It contains parts from Genesis 9 : 1-44, 22 in Greek . There are 50 damaged leaves, which are described in two columns in large, thick uncials . The text is the oldest evidence of the Egyptian version of these passages of the Septuagint text, as these are not included in the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Sinaiticus .

The fragments were acquired in Egypt by the American collector Alfred Chester Beatty before November 1931 . They are now in the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin .
