Seneca Black

Seneca Black (born April 15, 1978 in Florida ) is an American jazz trumpeter .

Black began playing the trumpet at the age of nine. After being introduced to the music of Duke Ellington by Wynton Marsalis at the age of 14, he became interested in jazz . He studied trumpet at the New World School of the Arts in Miami , before moving to New York to continue his studies with Lew Soloff at the Manhattan School of Music .

Black has been with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra since 1997, where he was lead trumpeter until 2003. He is also a member of Arturo O'Farrill's Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra and the Liberation Music Orchestra . He also played in the Mingus Big Band , the New York State of the Art Jazz Orchestra and the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra . He can also be heard on recordings with the Awakening Orchestra and with Darcy James Argue , with Michael Dease , with Steve Lippia and with Idan Santhaus. In the field of jazz he was involved in 40 recording sessions between 1998 and 2018.
