Paracestracion is an extinct shark genus from the Middle and Upper Jurassic , closely related to the recent bull head sharks ( Heterodontus ). Fossils of the genus have been found in Germany ( Solnhofen ) and England.

features

The representatives of the genus Paracestracion were small sharks, which were very similar to the recent bull head sharks. Her figure was slim, her head relatively large and angular. The pectoral fins were relatively large. Paracestracion species differed from Heterodontus species only in their teeth, which had a central ridge, and the thorns, which were located in front of both dorsal fins. The dorsal fin spines showed a lateral grain in Paracestracion . The mouth had small, pointed teeth at the front and flattened molars at the back. Like today's bullhead sharks, the representatives of the genus Paracestracion were probably sluggish bottom fish that mainly fed on mussels, sea urchins and other hard-shelled animals.
