The parallel collar is a knot for connecting two rods lengthways.

application

The knot is used for the longitudinal connection of two rods, which can then be sheared into a bipod.

It is also used as a longitudinal collar to connect two poles to form a longer one. However, two or more frets must be tied one behind the other so that the connection point does not buckle due to shear forces.

Knot

manual

First, a carpenter's tack or loom line attaches the line to one of the beams. Then a few turns are wrapped around both poles and then a few more turns around the line itself between the beams. Finally, fix the line to one of the poles again using a loom line.

If the beams are to serve as bipods, the coils do not have to be lashed very tight, as the shearing creates even more tension on the line.

Alternatives

To connect two beams at an angle, cross or diagonal ties are suitable .
