Parallels Workstation is a virtual machine (VM) from Parallels , more precisely a hypervisor , for the Windows and Linux operating systems with x86 - compatible processors . It complements Parallels Desktop , which runs as a virtual machine on computers with the Mac OS X operating system.

As a business operating system are Windows (XP Pro SP3) and Linux supported as guest operating systems, a large number can be 32-bit operating systems for x86 hardware virtualized (u. A. Windows, Linux, FreeBSD , OS / 2 , Solaris / 86 ). According to the manufacturer, support for 64-bit operating systems is planned for the future.

The virtualization extensions AMD-V from AMD and VT-x from Intel are also supported.

The central configuration tool for starting, creating and managing virtual machines is a program written in Qt 3.

Proprietary, closed source. A 15-day trial version of the paid program can be downloaded for free.
