Paralysis was a Dutch power and progressive metal band from Westdorpe , founded in 1987 and disbanded around 2000.
history
Shortly after the band was founded in 1987, the demo In State of Shock was released . In the following year the line-up changed with the departure of drummer Andre Nijssen, who was replaced by Stephen van Haestregt. Soon after, the singer Mark de Smit also left the group, whereupon Stephen's brother Jean-Paul joined as a replacement. Through the 1988 demo Trivial Round of Life , Paralysis was able to hold performances together with Donor , Whiplash and Sadus, among others . Then the recordings for the third demo began, but had to be interrupted because Jean-Paul van Haestregt stopped his participation. They were then ended with Lex Vogelaar. After Nick Davies from England joined the band as a singer, the Arctic Sleep demo was created. However, since the band was more than satisfied with the result, the recordings were not released as a demo, but as an EP in 1991 . In 1994 the self-produced album Visions followed. Two of these songs were later re-recorded and released on the 1996 EP Wonderland via Defrosting Records . After the release, the guitarist Fausto Dhanis left the band, whereupon Eric Bos took his post. The former singer Jean-Paul Van Haestregt was added as a further guitarist. After the band had signed a record deal with AFM Records , the album Architecture of the Imagination was released in May 2000 . Then the band broke up.
style
According to Danny from metalreviews.com , the band on Architecture of the Imagination plays a mixture of power and progressive metal that sounds influenced by Dream Theater and Queensrÿche . The songs are very complex, with many breaks , so that it is difficult to process the songs as a listener. Markus Wedig from eternitymagazin.de also reviewed the album. He found that the style specified in the record company's information sheet, a mix of power and progressive metal, was correct. Both styles would be blended together harmoniously. The songs are mostly in the medium speed range and would only become accessible to the listener after several rounds.
