Parasarpa dudu is a butterfly ( butterflies )found in Asiafromthe noble butterfly family (Nymphalidae).

The wingspan of the moth is 70 to 76 millimeters. The upper side of the forewing shows a dark brown basic color in both sexes. Two rust-red blemishes stand out on the upper side of the forewing near the front edge . A wide white band extends over the post-disk region on both pairs of wings. The anal angle is colored orange-red on the upper side of the hind wing. On the red-brown undersides of the wings, the drawing on the upper sides is somewhat paler. The basal region of the hind wings is cream colored.

Caterpillar

Adult caterpillars are yellow-brown in color and covered with many short red-brown, spiky hairs on the body surface. Particularly noticeable are four long, light yellow tubercles , which are thickened in a brush-like reddish color at the tips.

Similar species

In Euthalia duda the blemishes are brown in color and the white band on the upper side of the hind wing is light blue.

Occurrence, subspecies and habitat

The distribution area of ​​the species extends from India , Nepal , Bhutan , Thailand , Laos and Malaysia to the southeast of China and Vietnam . It is also found in Taiwan . There are currently six subspecies in the individual occurrence areas .

Parasarpa dudu inhabits forest areas at altitudes between 500 and 2000 meters.

Way of life

The moths can be found between November and July. They like to suck liquids from the damp ground. Occasionally they also visit flowers. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of honeysuckle species ( Lonicera ), including Lonicera confusa. , Lonicera macrantha , Lonicera hypoglauca and Lonicera acuminata .
