Nuragic settlement of Gennaccili

The Parco Archeologico di Selene (Archaeological Park of Selene, also Parco archeologico del bosco di Selene or Parco archeologico Bosco Seleni ) is located near Lanusei in the province of Nuoro on the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia . In a dense holm oak forest (Bosco di Selene) there is a nuragic settlement from the 15th century BC. With the remainder of a small nuraghe and 200 round hut foundations as well as two giant tombs of the later Madau type made of local granite . The 321 known giant tombs of Sardinia are mostly monuments of the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture (2,200–1,600 BC), which was the forerunner of the nuragic culture .

Giant grave

Giant Tombs I + II

Giant's Grave I dates from the Middle Bronze Age (1400 to 1300 BC). It has a semicircular exedra made of 15 stones and a chamber that was once covered by two layers of flat stones. It has a wide forecourt with a bank altar on the facade. The excavation yielded vases and pots with an impressive comb decoration.

Giant's grave II is around 100 years younger than grave I. It also has an exedra made of 15 stones. Three perforated stones, called "conci a cappelle", stood in front of the better preserved giant grave. Small baityloi , symbolizing fertility deities, were placed in each of the three holes in the stones . The floor of the burial chamber is covered with granite slabs. Another feature is the existence of fallen baityloi next to the grave.

In the Bosco di Selene, the “Su Sambuccu” fountain is located between huge rock debris.

The nuragic village of Gennaccili has been excavated. It is located 500 meters southeast of the giant tombs I + II. The nuraghe and the hut circles that surround them have been restored. Many fragments from the Middle Bronze Age were found. There is a sacred well on the granite plateau.
