The Paris march ( Army March II, 38) is a trot march of the cavalry .

history

The march was composed by Johann Heinrich Walch and was probably known in Frankfurt am Main as early as 1800 . On March 31, 1814 he was in the presence of Emperor Franz I , Tsar Alexander I and King Friedrich Wilhelm III. played when the allied troops entered Paris at the end of the Sixth Coalition War . In the Wehrmacht it was the march of the air force flying units .

Due to the title, the march became a popular symbol of Franco-German “hereditary enmity” during the time of the German Empire , but also later during the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich . As in 1814, the march sounded on June 14, 1940 when German troops marched into Paris during the western campaign .

In the Bundeswehr , the parade march in Paris is rarely performed publicly due to its sometimes problematic history and the title, but more recently it has been used more often on recordings by German music corps. Abroad, it is especially popular in Russia , where it has been part of the traditional repertoire of military music since 1814.
