The Park Bridge is a road bridge near the Scottish town of Drumoak in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1971 the bridge was included in the Scottish Monument List in the highest monument category A. A former additional classification as a Scheduled Monument was lifted in 1996. On the left bank there is an old toll house that is protected as a Category C structure.

history

The Deeside Railway Company had the road bridge built in 1854. The aim was to enable travelers from the right bank of the Dee to cross to their stations. The Scottish engineer John Willet is responsible for the construction planning. The cast iron bridge elements were cast in the James Aberneth & Co. foundry in Aberdeen . Until 1962, a toll had to be paid for use.

description

The viaduct spans the Dee with two flat segment arches . The uniform arches span around 37 meters. They were cast in four segments and connected with bolts on site. The spandrels of the arches are filled with cast iron arcades that support the wooden bridge deck. The pillars and abutments are made of granite blocks. In order to meet today's requirements, railings were subsequently installed. The Park Bridge leads a secondary road of little infrastructural importance over the Dee.

Toll house

The former toll house is on the north side of the bridge on the left bank of the Dee. Like the bridge, it was built in 1854. The simple one-story building has two windows and a door on the south-facing main facade.
