Drumoak ( Gaelic : Druim M'Aodhaig ) is a village on the western border of the Scottish Council Area Aberdeenshire . It is located about 16 km west-southwest of downtown Aberdeen and nine kilometers east-northeast of Banchory on the north bank of the Dee . In 2011 Drumoak had 853 residents.
Drum Castle is about a mile northwest of Drumoak . This dates back to the 13th century and was given to William de Irwyn by Robert the Bruce in 1323 . In 1871 the building was modernized, which was the headquarters of the Irvine clan until 1975 . That year it became the property of the National Trust for Scotland .
The A93 runs through Drumoak and connects the village to the trunk road network. A few hundred meters south, a side road leads over a bridge over the Dee.
