Park Royal & Twyford Abbey (London Underground)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Park Royal & Twyford Abbey is a former London Underground station on the District Line . It was a little north of today's Park Royal station on the Piccadilly Line , on the route from Ealing Common to Rayners Lane .

The station was opened on June 23, 1903 by the Metropolitan District Railway (predecessor of today's District Line ) to better develop the recently opened exhibition grounds of the Royal Agricultural Society . It was the terminus for five days before the route was extended to South Harrow on June 28th .

Despite the easy accessibility (there was a station on the Central Line on the east side ), the exhibition was unsuccessful and it closed its doors after a few years. On July 5, 1931, the station was closed in favor of the Park Royal station, which opened the following day, and was dismantled soon after. Although it was on what is now the Piccadilly Line, the station was never served by it, as only the District Line ran this branch until 1932.
