The Parkbahn is a former German trolleybus operation - at that time still called Gleislose Bahn - in Bremen . The plant was opened on September 17, 1910 and had to be closed again on December 31, 1911 due to lack of profitability. Because of a parallel line of the Bremen tram , the number of passengers always fell short of expectations. Operated was the path from the parking orbit GmbH .

Route description

The 3.1 kilometer long route ran on Rembertistraße and Parkallee from Bischofstor on the edge of downtown Bremen to the northernmost point of the Bürgerpark in the Schwachhausen district, which was incorporated a few years earlier . Here also was custodian of the track and a waiting area for passengers. The maximum permitted speed of the train was 20 km / h, which with a travel time of twelve minutes for the entire route led to a travel speed of 15.5 km / h.

The operating voltage was 550 volts direct current . The electricity was drawn from the Bremen tram. The route was only equipped with one pair of overhead lines, so that the pantographs had to be exchanged when vehicles met . The Parkbahn crossed the double-track and electrified tram route of the ring line (line 1) on the way. Both modes of transport had to pass through this section without electricity.

The Parkbahn was built by the local Gleislose Lloydbahnen Köhlers Bahnpatente GmbH , so it was operated according to the rare Lloyd-Köhler system . In this case, the two wires were arranged one above the other (instead of next to each other as in almost all other trolleybus systems). In total there were only five systems based on this system. In addition to the line covered here, these were the neighboring Bremen-Arster Bahn , the Ludwigsburg catenary railways , the trackless Lloyd-Bahn Brockau and the operation in Stockport, England .

vehicles

A total of four vehicles were used, three of them for regular operation and one reserve vehicle. They were 6.50 meters long, 3.20 meters high and 2.10 meters wide. The wheelbase was four meters and the car weight was 3.2 tons. The carriages each offered space for 20 seated people, there was no standing room.
