history
Surname
The street was named after the Bürgerweide . Since the 11th century there has been a grazing area for livestock, which everyone in Bremen was free to use. The cattle were driven from there via Herdentorsteinweg to Herdentor (Heerdenthor) in the city. This pasture was available until 1865.
development
In 1410 the Pagenthorn was built north of the road , a tower as part of the land defense and outpost of the Bremen city fortifications .
The district of Bahnhofsvorstadt only developed after 1849, when the Bremen gate was lifted and suburban citizens were given the same civil rights as the old town citizens.
In 1847 the Hannoversche Bahnhof was built and by 1889 the Centralbahnhof , today's Bremen Central Station .
By 1900, the first urban development on the street was largely complete. The Tivoli cinema was built in 1932 by Joseph Ostwald in a theater hall from 1908 at number 10. By 1926 the large post office in Bremen 5 was built.
traffic
The Bremen tram runs with lines 1 ( Huchting - Am Brill - Hauptbahnhof - S Bf Mahndorf ), 4 ( Lilienthal - Hauptbahnhof - Domsheide - Arsten ) and 10 ( Gröpelingen - Walle - Hauptbahnhof - Sebaldsbrück ).
