history
Rembertitunnel
In 1847 the railway line from the former Hanover station (1847 – around 1889) in Bremen to Wunstorf near Hanover was completed. The Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg railway followed in 1874. In 1891 the Bremen Hauptbahnhof was opened as the Centralbahnhof . In 1891 the citizens of Bremen decided to develop Parkallee. The tunnel was created around this time in order to reach the connection to the old town via Rembertistraße. Thereafter, the tunnel was expanded simultaneously with the widening of the railway line. The 50 meter long and 20 meter wide tunnel is currently (2015) used by 7,000 cyclists every day. Deutsche Bahn owns the tunnel .
The road and tunnel were named after the Archbishop of Bremen Rembert ( Rimbert , 830–888).
Peace tunnel
The freelance graphic designer and lecturer Regina Heygster initiated the Tunnel Project Interest Group . From this emerged in 2003 the Bremen association sets an example for the connection between the religious communities , renamed the Peace Tunnel in 2011 - Bremen sets an example . The mosaic art on the tunnel comes from the artist. In response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , Heygster turned to various religious communities in Bremen, as well as DB Netz AG and the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen , in order to jointly send a public sign of peace. The busy Rembertitunnel should serve as space for this. A model was presented in 2002. In 2002/03 the visualization of the project idea began.
From 2006/07, after solving technical problems, the implementation of the measures began with the dove-key emblem (2008) as a landmark, the garden of religions and the concrete relief (2009) with the peace trees oak and palm (2010/11) , the tree of life lotus mosaic (2012), the large print banner Peace begins small , the 100 meter long peace mosaic in 135 languages with the word peace (2014/15) and 82 text panels with peace and wisdom texts from the various religions and cultures (2015 ). The projects and their entertainment were and are financed by sponsors, companies and art sponsorships.
