Self-image and tasks

The federation was founded in 1980 as an umbrella organization of 26 mosque associations and other Islamic associations to promote the integration of Muslims and to make Islam known in Germany, especially in Berlin. In addition to mosques, its members also include youth and women's clubs and self-help groups. The IFB sees itself, independently and only represented regionally, as the representative of all interested Berlin Muslims.

job

The IFB calls for the introduction of regular Islamic religious instruction in accordance with Article 7, Paragraph 3 of the Basic Law and has drawn up draft curricula for this purpose . In Berlin, after twenty years, she fought for legal recognition to offer this class of its own on the basis of Section 23 of the Berlin Schools Act - that is, not as a regular subject under Article 7 (3) of the Basic Law. Since the beginning of the 2001/2002 school year, Islamic religious instruction has been given two hours a week in grades one to six at 15 schools under the responsibility of the IFB. Thirteen teachers teach around 1,560 students (as of 2002). According to the company's own information, 4,000 children are taught at 37 state schools in Berlin, for which the federation received a state subsidy of 740,000 euros in 2006.

The IFB is involved in the Advisory Board for Islamic Theology at the Humboldt University in Berlin and advises on the founding process of the Institute for Islamic Theology.

Hostility

The member community in Berlin-Buckow, the Aziziye Mosque, was the target of attacks by the right-wing extremist NPD through a leaflet campaign and a Facebook post (August 4, 2016 at 7:18 p.m.). The post shows a photo of the front view of the Aziziye mosque community with the heading “Abolish mosques, like here in Möwenweg 36-38! NPD Neukölln! "

Furthermore, the slogan “Say no to the mosque, in Buckow and elsewhere!” Is shown on the photo. The front view of the mosque community is shown on a sheet dated August 16, 2016 of the NPD with the slogan: "WEG mit der MOSCHEE im MÖWENWEG".
