The State Statistical Office of Bremen , as the body responsible for official statistics in the state of Bremen, provides data on the social and economic conditions in the state.

Its actions are based on the "Code of Practice for European Statistics". The main tasks of the office are set out in the law on statistics for federal purposes (Federal Statistics Act - BStatG) of January 22, 1987 and the State Statistics Act (LStatG) of July 11, 1989 and provide the authority with the legal framework.

history

The "Bureau for Bremen Statistics" was established in 1867 as a merger of the "Provisional Bureau for General State and City Statistics" established in 1861 and the "Bureau for Trade Statistics" founded in 1850. In 1901 the “Bureau for Bremen Statistics” was renamed “Bremen Statistical Office”.

In 1921 it was renamed "Statistisches Landesamt Bremen". In the period between 1942 and 1947 the office was renamed several times a. a. in the Statistical Office of the Hanseatic City of Bremen, Statistical Office Weser / Ems, Statistical Office of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. After changing location several times, the Bremen State Statistical Office has been located at An der Weide 14-16 since 1966 .

tasks

In addition to the realization of over 200 statistics, the presentation and publication of the results is a task of the State Statistical Office. The Bremen State Statistical Office acts as part of the "Statistical Association" to which all 14 State statistical offices and the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden belong. The individual state offices compile the statistics for their respective areas, the Federal Statistical Office combines the published results into federal statistics.

In addition to the national accounts, the office prepares forecast and model calculations and carries out socio-economic studies. It also has an advisory role to other authorities in the country and supports them with its results. The electoral office is integrated into the State Statistical Office of Bremen; it is responsible for the implementation, including the preparation and subsequent evaluation of the elections in the city of Bremen.
