history

The state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was the first in the new states to decide in December 1990 (decree of the state government of December 20, 1990) to set up a state statistical office for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as a higher state authority in the area of responsibility of the interior minister. The previous 3 district offices and 37 district offices were dissolved and structurally and personally merged to form a state office based in Schwerin . This process was completed in late 1991. The introduction of the complete program of federal statistics could essentially be completed by 1994.

On December 31, 2005 the independence of the State Statistical Office of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ended. Since January 1st, 2006 it has been a department (statistical office) in the then newly created State Office for Internal Administration (LAiV). The LAiV - with a total of five departments - is a higher authority in the portfolio of the Ministry of the Interior and Europe .
