The Parktherme Bad Radkersburg is a thermal bath with a spa park in the thermal and volcanic region of Styria .

history

A well was discovered in 1927 during a search for oil near the city park. From a depth of 280 meters, water gushed from a warm mineralized spring, which is now used as a  city spring  . A swimming pool with a hot tub was built.

In 1963, today's 50-meter sports pool, known at the time as the Parkbad, opened, and in 1965 a spa center was opened, expanding medical care and adding various sports facilities. The city has been called Bad Radkersburg since 1978.

In 1978, the abundant thermal water source for a thermal bath was developed with a second borehole in the city park / spa park at a depth of two kilometers. Due to the outlet temperature of 80 ° C and the special mineralization, the thermal water spring is one of the hottest and most mineral-rich springs in Styria. In the course of the successfully completed drilling, the spa and tourism company Bad Radkersburg GesmbH was founded by the municipality.

In 1987, 51 percent of the company shares were taken over by the State of Styria and in 2003 they were repurchased by the municipality of Bad Radkersburg and Bad Radkersburger Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH.

In 1989 the name "Parktherme" was decided.

In 2012 the new sauna village was expanded to a total of 8 saunas and the Parktherme NEW was revitalized to over 3,600 m², which was officially opened in 2013 as the NEW Parktherme Bad Radkersburg.

The new campsite at Parktherme Bad Radkersburg opened in 2015.

In 2017 the spa center was transformed into the new Vita med health center, which opened in September 2017.

The thermal spring, which is a few hundred meters from the spa, is located directly on the state border with Slovenia. It was drilled in 1978. The healing water from a depth of 2 kilometers has a 9,000 mg mineralization with isotonic sodium hydrogen carbonate at a water temperature of 80 degrees.

architecture

The Parktherme was built until 1999 according to the plans of Team A in Graz in five construction stages with an outdoor pool of the spa, a coffee house, another outdoor pool directly connected to an indoor pool and another large lounge area, and subsequently with the expansion of the sauna, the Adventure pool and restaurant were built.

In 2012, a central renovation and extension of the thermal baths was integrated into an old building on the left and right according to the plans of the architecture firm skyline architects in Vienna. The extension took the form of conical individual structures, connected by glass corridors with a natural view of the approx. 5 hectare park landscape.
