Parnassus pieces

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Parnassus plays ( English Parnassus plays ) are the three anonymous 1598-1602 published plays The Pilgrimage to Parnassus , The First Part of the Return from Parnassus and The Second Part of the Return from Parnassus , which at St John's College in Cambridge to Christmas were performed. The authors of the plays were unknown for a long time, presumably John Weever as the author of the first play and the satirist Joseph Hall or the playwright John Day as the author of the other two plays. The plays revolve around the attempts of various poets to find employment, or in the last two plays to find a recording with the theater company Lord Chamberlain's Men .
