Parodia nothominuscula is a species of the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet nivosa is derived from the Greek word notho- for 'wrong' and the type Parodia minuscula .

description

Parodia nothominuscula usually grows individually or sometimes forms groups. The dark green to olive green, flattened spherical to spherical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 3 centimeters and a diameter of 4.5 centimeters. The nine to ten vertical ribs are rounded. The circular to oval areoles on them are dirty white to gray. The flexible thorns are dark red to blackish brown. The single central spine has a length of up to 1.8 centimeters. The eight to twelve radial spines are up to 1 centimeter long.

The bright yellow flowers have a greenish yellow central stripe. They reach a diameter of 4.5 centimeters and lengths of up to 4 centimeters. The scars are burgundy. The greenish, short elongated fruits are up to 1 centimeter long and have a diameter of 8 millimeters. The fruits contain bell-shaped, black-brown, 8 to 11 millimeters long seeds that are slightly tuberous.

Distribution and systematics

Parodia nothominuscula is widespread in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, west of Santana da Boa Vista .

The description by Andreas Hofacker was published in 1998. Synonyms are Notocactus minusculus Hofacker & K. Herm (1996), Peronocactus minusculus (Hofacker & K. Herm) Doweld (1999, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4), Notocactus ottonis var. Minusculus (Hofacker & K. Herm) N. Gerloff & Neduchal (2004) and Parodia nothominuscula subsp. gravior Hofacker (2000).
