Parodia stuemeri is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet stuemeri honors the Argentine field collector and plant trader Ernst Stuemer.

Parodia stuemeri usually grows individually and sometimes forms groups. The cloudy green spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 20 centimeters and a diameter of 15 centimeters. The apex of the shoot is covered with whitish or brownish felt. The 20 or more flat, vertically to slightly spiral-shaped ribs are divided into conical cusps. The four crossed brownish central spines have a black-brown tip. They are stiff and needle-like. The central spines have lengths of up to 1.5 centimeters. Some in front of them occasionally have a more or less curved tip. The approximately 25 fine, needle-like, whitish radial spines interlock with one another. They are 1 to 1.5 centimeters (rarely up to 2 centimeters) long.

The yellowish orange to reddish flowers reach lengths of up to 4 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with white wool and a few bristles. The scars are pale yellow. The greenish yellow elongated fruits have lengths of up to 1.5 centimeters and diameter of 5 millimeters. The fruits contain black, about 0.7 millimeter long seeds that are finely tuberous.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia stuemeri is common in the Argentine province of Salta at altitudes of 1000 to 2000 meters.

The first description as Echinocactus stuemeri by Erich Werdermann was published in 1931. Curt Backeberg placed the species in the genus Parodia in 1936 . Another nomenclature synonym is Bolivicactus stuemeri (Werderm.) Doweld (2000).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
