Parol
Parol is the camouflage name for a Soviet secondary radar device , which was primarily designed for military purposes. As a NATO code , two names ("Dog tail" for the truck version and "End Curve" for the trailer version) were assigned to the device, which is electrically the same but has a different appearance. It was built in several versions, which only differed electrically in the construction of the transmitter, the RF line system and the antenna. The receiving and decoding equipment is the same for all versions.
It was built in 5 main versions, which were also divided into performance groups. The picture shows the Parol 4 (ground-based interrogation device "NRS") with medium power on a truck of the Ural-375D type .
The work regimes range from regime 1 (downward compatibility with the old Kremnij 2 system ) to individual identification and the very comfortable regime 6, in which, in addition to the flight number, the altitude of the aircraft above ground and the remaining fuel (in percent) can be displayed.
The Parol uses three different frequencies for each query, one of them for the query. The response signal consists of three pulses that are distributed over two different frequencies. The coding is implemented by the distance between the second and third pulses and the first and by the choice of the response frequency. Seven different response signals are possible. Thus, with the choice of the response frequency 84, there are various possibilities for the individual detection of missiles.
