The Lago Enriquillo e Isla Cabritos National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Lago Enriquillo e Isla Cabritos) includes Lake Enriquillo and the island of Isla Cabritos in the southwest of the Dominican Republic . It was established in 1974 and covers an area of 406.54 km².
geography
The salt lake is located in the provinces of Baoruco and Independencia , just before the border with Haiti, at an altitude of 36 m below sea level.
At 70 g / kg, the salt content of the lake is twice as high as that of sea water. In the lake and its surroundings is the largest population of Spitz crocodile on the Antilles to find, also rhinoceros iguanas and Hispaniola iguanas . In the park 134 species of birds have been observed, including Cuba flamingos , Bahama ducks , mask oxyurinae , egrets , blue herons and brown glossy ibis .
