The Parque Natural de Corralejo is a natural park on the to Spain belonging Canary Island Fuerteventura .
location
The nature park is located in the northeast of the Spanish Atlantic island of Fuerteventura and belongs to the municipality of La Oliva . Corralejo is located directly on the northern edge of the nature park . The area of the nature park is 2668.7 hectares. The largest length is about 11 km. The asphalt island road FV-104 (formerly FV-1) runs through the park in a north-south direction. The through traffic has meanwhile been shifted to a newly built section of the FV-1 in the interior of the country. After completion, the passage through the nature park should be closed, but it is still possible as of April 2019. The current FV-104 road and the hotels affect the expansion of the shifting dunes.
history
The natural park was founded in 1982 under the name Parque Natural de la Dunas de Corralejo e Isla de de Lobos . In December 1994 it was renamed to its current name. Shortly before the designation as a nature park, two large hotel complexes ( Riu Tres Islas and Riu Oliva Beach ) were built in the middle of the dune landscape.
nature
The light, fine sand made of shell limestone forms a dune landscape in which there are numerous endemic plant species.
