Part One is the second studio album by the American psychedelic rock band The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and the first for Reprise Records . It was first published in 1967 and was re-released in 2001 with revised liner notes and two additional pieces.

History of origin

After the band had released their debut album in 1966 with “Volume One” in small numbers with the small record company Fifo , they achieved a certain level of success with their new member, frontman and singer Bob Markley, who also wrote the lyrics, due to their regular appearances with an elaborate light show Notoriety in the Los Angeles area . This is how the record company Reprise Records became aware of them. Due to disputes between Bob Markley and Michael Lloyd, Ron Morgan was also involved in the recordings for the resulting album as a guitarist, who would subsequently become a permanent member of the band.

Style and reception

“Part One” is an album that can be classified between pop and psychedelic rock; Despite Bob Markley's seemingly schizophrenic vocals and pieces like the cover version of Frank Zappa's "Help, I'm a Rock", the songs are largely based on catchy melodies:

"It was still plenty weird, almost to the point of stylistic schizophrenia, but when you got down to it, much of the record was comprised of fairly catchy songs in the neighborhood of two and three minutes."

"It's still quite strange, almost to the point of stylistic schizophrenia, but when you dig deeper into it, the album consists of pretty catchy songs close to two and three minutes [length]."
