history

Foundation and advancement

The Partido Renovador Democrático was founded in 1985, under the decisive strategic direction of President António Ramalho Eanes , and his explicit demand for the preservation of moral principles in the increasing change in values of national politics. The General and President Eanes had dissolved the Portuguese Parliament when the privatization and deregulation policy of the PS / PSD government (1983-85) arose in the political landscape of Portugal, after more and more of the things introduced after the Carnation Revolution in 1974 economic policy and social law innovations were relativized or withdrawn. In the following parliamentary election in 1985 , the PRD immediately became the third strongest force with 17.92% of the vote.

Relegation and dissolution

After 1985 the PRD did not succeed in developing a convincing format in the public eye, and so could not win a solid voter base. With its significant participation in the overthrow of the PSD minority government in 1987, the PRD then brought about the following elections itself. In the 1987 parliamentary elections , the PRD only received 4.9% of the vote and lost its importance in the country's politics. In the parliamentary elections in Portugal in 1991 , she only got 0.6% and thus also lost her last seven of the original 45 seats.

In 2000, the party disbanded for good after right-wing extremist forces had increasingly taken over the PRD , with mass defections from the disbanded small right-wing extremist Movimento de Acção Nacional . They then founded the Partido Nacional Renovador party .
