Pascal Durand
Pascal Durand (born October 3, 1960 in Montreuil ) is a French politician (formerly Europe Écologie-Les Verts (EELV)). He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 .
Life
Pascal Durand comes from a communist resistance family. His mother had a leading role in the PCF and the Union des femmes , but was expelled from the party in 1968 because of her opposition to the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia . For Pascal Durand this was a formative event. As a schoolboy, he supported the campaign of the ecological candidate René Dumont in the presidential elections in 1974 and campaigned against nuclear power. He studied law in Paris and became a lawyer in 1968.
In 2006 Pascal Durand met Nicolas Hulot and worked with him a. a. in the run-up to the 2007 presidential elections on his pacte écologique . In 2009 he led the campaign for the Europe Écologie alliance founded by Daniel Cohn-Bendit in the European elections and was thus instrumental in the great election success.
On June 23, 2012 he was elected as the successor to Cécile Duflot as the new general secretary of the Europe Écologie Les Verts party. Just over a year later, on September 25, 2013, he left the top management again due to internal party criticism of his attitude towards the French government, in which the EELV was involved.
Pascal Durand has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 . There he is a member of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection , the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and the Delegation for relations with the Federal Republic of Brazil.
In the European elections he was re-elected to the European Parliament on the Renaissance list of the ruling party La République en Marche .
