The Paso Peña Negra is a border crossing between Argentina and Chile .
The dirt road connects the northwest of Argentina in the province of La Rioja in the Atacama region with the city of Tierra Amarilla in Chile. The highest peak on the pass in Cordillera de los Andes has a height of 4371 meters. The climate is very harsh in winter. The snow depths are between 2 and 3 meters. There are a few shelters for emergency use. The pass is only freely accessible for a few months in summer.
