Passage West ( Irish An Pasáiste Thiar ) is a ferry port with 4818 inhabitants (2006) near the city of Cork in County Cork in Ireland . From here you can reach the island of Great Island in Cork Harbor, on which the town of Cobh is located. This passage used to be the fastest connection. Today, Cork and Cobh are better under the River Lee through a bridge and the south bypass through the Jack Lynch Tunnel , which opened in 1999 and named after the former Irish Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Jack Lynch (1917-1999) connected, so that the ferry passage is only of touristic importance.

The eastern counterpart is Passage East near Waterford .
