Passetto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Passetto , also Passeto, Passet (to Passo , 'small step') was an Italian measure of length in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany , in Sicily and in the Papal States .

Tuscany

The measure is called a double cell because two simple cubits , Braccia da panno, corresponded to this measure. In Tuscany , the local measures had been abolished with the law of July 1, 1782 and the Braccia da panno , the so-called wool cubit, had been legally regulated as a measure of length . The basic measure was kept as an etalon in the archives of the finance department of the Grand Duchy.

  • 1 Braccia da panno = 20 Soldi = 60 Quarttini = 240 Denari at 12 Punti = 258.73 Parisian lines = 0.58365 meters

Another classification of the Braccia da passo

  • 1 Braccia da passo = 12 Grazie = 60 Quarttini = 240 Denari

For the double cell, the passetto, these dimensions resulted:

  • 1 Passetto = 2 Braccia da passo = 517.46 Paris lines = 1.1673 meters

Other cubits were also referred to as double cells if the length was twice the length of the current cubit. For example, the French aune with dimensions over one meter is known as a large or double cell, since before 1812 the single dimension in the 0.6 to 0.7 meter range was valid.

Sicily

Papal States

  • 1 Passetto architettonico = 3 Palmi architettonico = 66.96 centimeters
