St. Michael Youth Organization

The Jugendwerk St. Michael eV, founded in 1954 through the merger of two predecessor associations, is a non-profit , registered association for the promotion of Catholic youth work in the diocese of Fulda . It creates the framework for Catholic youth associations .

In the diocese of Fulda it is the legal entity of the nationwide active, catholic youth associations BDKJ , the KjG and the KLJB with a total of approx. 6800 members and supports the youth education work as a sponsor of youth education houses and campsites.

The association is led by volunteers in the board and control bodies.

Goals and tasks of the association

Young people should be given the opportunity to learn about the diverse range of Catholic youth through participation, witnessing and help shape so that they in their own self-determination be able to mature Christians to be in every community , in family , profession and community .

The members of the association set themselves the task of creating prerequisites and framework conditions for a liberal and democratic youth work. In particular, you want to support youth work in the association.

Ludwig Wolker House

The Ludwig-Wolker-Haus in Kleinsassen at the foot of the Milseburg in the Rhön (coordinates: 50 ° 32 ′ 50 ″  N , 9 ° 52 ′ 42 ″  E ) is named after Ludwig Wolker , the founder of the Association of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ ) .

It is the first educational facility of the St. Michael Youth Association with a total of 85 beds, was built in 1959 and inaugurated by the then Bishop of Fulda Adolf Bolte . It has been expanded and redesigned several times.

As early as 1965, the Ludwig-Wolker-Haus was structurally expanded and enlarged due to the increasing number of overnight stays.

In 1975 a further extension was added, creating 48 beds in 16 bedrooms and 4 speakers' rooms. A renovation of the dining room in the old building took place in 1995, further changes in 2000. Since 2014 the house has been completely renovated.

Thomas More House

The Thomas-More-Haus am Buchschirm near Hilders in the Rhön (coordinates: 50 ° 34 ′ 38 ″  N , 10 ° 1 ′ 25 ″  E ) is named after the English Lord Chancellor Thomas More , the patron saint of the Catholic Young Community (KjG) .

Attached is a 17,000 m² campsite with a play barn, one of the largest campsites in the region, which was inaugurated in 1980.

In 1985 the Thomas-More-Haus was inaugurated as a youth education center with a total of 47 beds by the then Bishop of Fulda , Archbishop Johannes Dyba . In 2004 the house was extensively modernized and last expanded in 2018.

The Pater-Löslein-Hütte at Buchschirm near Hilders in the Rhön (coordinates: 50 ° 34 ′ 40.6 ″  N , 10 ° 1 ′ 16.7 ″  E ) is named after the Capuchin Father Archangelus Löslein , the founder of the Catholic youth camps Diocese of Fulda on the book screen.

It was acquired in 1977 by the St. Michael Youth Association and has been used for leisure time since 1978. It has been modernized several times in the meantime and can be used from April to October. The self-catering hut in East Hesse stands on an 8,000 m² campsite that can accommodate around 40–50 people.

Legal entities

The association assumes legal ownership for Catholic youth associations in the diocese of Fulda as unregistered associations and their members and is liable for them. Currently there are around 6,800 children, adolescents and young adults.

The association in the diocese of Fulda has currently taken over the legal sponsorship for the following Catholic youth associations:
