Patric Laurence Dickinson

Patric Laurence Dickinson , LVO (born November 24, 1950 ) is an English lawyer, genealogist and heraldist. He holds the office of Clarenceux King of Arms at the College of Arms .

Life

Dickinson attended Marling School in Stroud , Gloucestershire , and then studied law at Trinity College of the University of Oxford . There he was President of the Oxford Union , the university's famous debating club . He then entered the Middle Temple Bar in London.

Dickinson began his career at the College of Arms in 1968 as a research assistant. In 1978 he became a full member of the college as a Rouge Dragon Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary . In 1989, he was promoted to the Richmond Herald of Arms in Ordinary . On April 1, 2010, he took over the office of Norroy and Ulster King of Arms , from which he moved to his current office after just a few months.

Dickinson has been Secretary of the Order of the Garter since 2004 . In this office he succeeded Hubert Chesshyre , the former Clarenceux King of Arms.

Orders, awards and memberships

Dickinson has been a Lieutenant in the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) since 2004 . He is also chairman of the Anthony Powell Society.
