Patricia Diane Lopez (* in Española (New Mexico) ) is an American computer scientist known for her research on image processing and image enhancement.

Life

Lopez learned basic programming in her high school in the 1970s. In 1976 she began studying computer science at New Mexico State University . After completing her bachelor's degree in 1980 and her master's degree in 1982, she received a scholarship for her doctorate , which she completed in 1989 with the topic of the principles of apparent movement in human and computer-aided movement perception. From 1983 to 1989 she was part of the Vision and Robotics group at New Mexico State University. In 1989 she went to Hewlett Packard Co as a development engineer for the development of image processing algorithms and image processing software , where she worked for nineteen years. She has published over fifty products and holds seven patents. In 2004 she had twins and did not get back to her old job afterwards. She moved to Intel in Fort Collins, Colorado. Since 2000 she has served on various bodies at New Mexico State University. She was a founding member of Latinas in Computing, which began as a listserv for Hispanic women in the industry and has since grown into a thriving community and support network with the help of the Anita Borg Institute for Women in Technology. She lives in Colorado with her husband, Bob Fink, and their three children .
