IC 4336 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is an estimated 116 million light years away from the Milky Way and is approximately 45,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5311 , NGC 5313 , NGC 5326 , NGC 5337 , among others .
The object was discovered on May 4, 1897 by the French astronomer Guillaume Bigourdan .
