Patrick Birocheau

Patrick Birocheau (born September 23, 1955 in Bejaia (Algeria)) is a French table tennis player . He was one of the best players in France in the 1970s and 1980s. He was European champion in doubles and with the team.

Life

Birocheau's first international success was winning the European Youth Championship with the French team.

In 1976, he won the French singles championships among adults , nine times he won doubles (1973-1976, 1978, 1979, 1982, 1987, 1988) and 1983 mixed. With AS Messine Paris he was French team champion in 1982. Between 1973 and 1988 he took part in eight world championships and eight times in European championships . He became European champion in doubles at the 1980 European Championship together with Jacques Secrétin . At the European Championship in 1984 he won gold with the French team and silver two years later. In 1982 and 1984 he reached the semi-finals in doubles with Secrétin.

He had his greatest success at World Championships in 1981 when he reached the semi-finals in doubles with Jacques Secrétin . In 1988 he qualified to take part in the first Summer Olympic Games in table tennis .

Birocheau has been working as a national coach in France since 1998.
