Patrick Corish

Patrick Joseph Corish (born March 20, 1921 in Ballycullane , County Wexford , † January 10, 2013 ) was an Irish Roman Catholic theologian , church historian and priest .

Life

He studied at Maynooth College from 1939. He was ordained in the college chapel on June 17, 1945, received a doctorate in theology, and was appointed professor of church history at Saint Patrick's College in Maynooth in 1947 . Twenty years later, in 1967, he was named college president, but served only a year before resuming his church history professorship. He was replaced by Jeremiah Newman as president.

When he retired, he enjoyed the development of the rock garden, which was part of the college's original walled garden. In 1984 he joined the Alpine Garden Society and grew many plants from seeds in the quarter-acre garden.
